Peacock’s new Avant Series Black Hole transforms the invisible architecture of the cosmos into a work of mechanical art. At its heart, a self-developed central free-sprung tourbillon evokes the singularity of a black hole, while concentric hour and minute discs orbit its center like matter drawn into gravity. Across the dial, hand-crafted curved guilloché recreates a “spacetime grid,” its intricate geometry converging inward to suggest the distortion of space itself. Each undulating surface is individually engraved, creating a sculptural field of light, shadow, and depth. From the flame-blued titanium inner ring to the intricate guilloché beneath, every element embodies Peacock’s pursuit of a new horological frontier—where the invisible force of the universe becomes tangible beneath the hand of the artisan.
Spacetime Woven by Hand
Peacock’s hand-crafted curved guilloché transforms the abstract geometry of gravity into a tangible work of Métiers d’Art. Inspired by the warped spacetime surrounding a black hole, the “Gravitational Weave” pattern is built from interlocking V-shaped grooves that gradually contract toward the center, creating the visual impression of space collapsing under immense gravitational force. Unlike conventional flat guilloché, every line is engraved directly across a three-dimensional curved surface. The result is a living geometric field whose depth and reflections shift continuously with the light—an intricate interpretation of the invisible architecture of the universe.
1,440 Cuts Across a Curved Dimension
The “Gravitational Weave” is formed from 240 precisely interlocking V-grooves: 120 advancing clockwise and 120 counterclockwise. Each groove requires six individual engraving passes, resulting in 1,440 precision cuts across the curved dial. Every cut opens at an exact 3° angle, a deliberate geometric reference to the three dimensions of physical space. Unlike a flat surface, the curved dial constantly changes in elevation, forcing the artisan to adjust the angle and pressure of the tool by hand. One unstable movement can permanently damage the metal. Here, precision is not programmed—it is felt, controlled, and repeated by the human hand.
When Guilloché Leaves the Flat Plane
Traditional guilloché relies on a predictable two-dimensional surface. Curved guilloché introduces an entirely different challenge: every engraving path moves through three dimensions as the surface rises and falls beneath the tool. Conventional machinery cannot simply follow these changing trajectories. Peacock therefore developed and specially adapted dedicated equipment for the demands of curved engraving. Across 1,440 individual cuts, artisans continuously compensate for subtle changes in curvature, adjusting pressure and blade angle by hand. Every cut removes metal permanently; even a microscopic error cannot be corrected. The craft demands not only technical mastery, but exceptional patience, muscle memory, and absolute control.
The Final Discipline of the Surface
Once the curved guilloché is complete, the dial undergoes a meticulous hand-matting process to refine its final character. Using specially prepared abrasive material and a dedicated brush, the artisan follows the changing curvature of the dial stroke by stroke. Pressure must remain perfectly balanced: too much force softens the sharp geometry of the V-grooves; too little leaves traces of abrasive residue within the recesses. Because the surface is sculpted rather than flat, the contact point of the brush constantly shifts with the curve. This final stage transforms the freshly cut metal into a restrained, velvety surface, allowing light and shadow to reveal the depth of the engraved geometry.
A Tourbillon at the Heart of the Cosmos
At the center of the Black Hole beats Peacock’s self-developed central free-sprung tourbillon. Within a 35.6 mm movement, 196 components are integrated around a tourbillon carriage weighing just 0.46 g. Four barrels connected in series deliver an exceptional 120-hour power reserve, while transmission efficiency exceeds 95%. The central vortex-shaped bridge evokes the distortion of spacetime around a singularity, turning mechanical engineering into a visual interpretation of gravity. Every component is conceived not only for performance, but for architectural harmony—an expression of Peacock’s belief that haute horlogerie should make complexity visible.

3.5 mm: Precision Without Excess
At just 3.5 mm thick, Peacock’s ultra-thin movement compresses sophisticated mechanical architecture into remarkably little space. Its free-sprung balance incorporates four internal Gyromax-style weights, allowing inertia to be finely adjusted without altering the effective length of the hairspring. This architecture helps preserve the hairspring’s ideal geometry and supports long-term isochronism. The pursuit of thinness here is not simply a matter of dimensions—it is an exercise in control, where every micron, component, and surface must perform within an exceptionally constrained mechanical space.

400 Cuts Beneath the Tourbillon
The movement’s lower bridge receives its own celestial landscape: an eight-part hand-guilloché pattern inspired by cosmic vortices. Each section is engraved at a precise 3° rotation, with more than 400 individual tool passes forming a tightly interwoven geometry. The spacing between lines is controlled to just 0.3125 mm, while 108 “knife-avoidance” points demand absolute precision around the perimeter. Seven rubies are positioned like stars captured within a gravitational field, following the visual path of an accretion disc. Mechanical decoration becomes more than ornament—it becomes a miniature universe shaped by human hands.
Time in Orbital Motion
Forged in lightweight titanium alloy, the Black Hole’s inner structure demands greater control than conventional steel, with concentrated heat, rapid tool wear, and tighter dimensional tolerances. After extended CNC milling, Peacock applies femtosecond “cold” laser processing—adapted from semiconductor and medical technology—to create the intricate hollow structures of the hour and minute discs with micron-level precision. Each component is then gradually refined by hand, as the artisan carefully balances every edge and surface. The result is precision engineering elevated by patient human craftsmanship.

550–600°C: Colour Forged by Fire
The titanium inner ring is individually flame-blued at temperatures between 550°C and 600°C. Unlike a uniform surface coating, the blue-violet coloration emerges naturally through controlled oxidation, making every pattern inherently unique. On a curved three-dimensional surface, heat must be moved continuously by hand; even a subtle change in distance, angle, or temperature can alter the final hue. The artisan must capture a fleeting moment in the oxidation process, selecting only pieces that meet Peacock’s exacting aesthetic standards. Each ring therefore carries a colour signature that cannot be replicated.

Time in Orbit
Instead of conventional hands, the Black Hole uses concentric titanium discs to display the hours and minutes around its central tourbillon. The hour disc and triangular marker glow blue through BGW9 Super-LumiNova, while the minute disc and marker emit a contrasting green glow through C1 luminous material. By day, the system creates a minimalist architectural composition; in darkness, the two luminous colours reveal time as if orbiting within a field of gravitational distortion.

A Case with a Weightless Presence
Crafted from Grade 5 titanium and paired with a domed sapphire crystal, the case uses golden-ratio proportions and sculpted side cuts to create an impression of depth and suspension. Its architectural profile seems to float around the central mechanism, echoing the weightless geometry of space.

The integrated fluororubber strap measures 120–80 mm in length and tapers from 23 to 18 mm in width. Its 2.8 mm profile follows the sculptural character of the case while keeping the avant-garde timepiece comfortable for everyday wear.
